5e - why you think it sucks, and why you're wrong

I reckon it's mostly older folks around here considering how often they keep taking the obvious bait and arguing with you in good faith every time you act like a snarky provocateur.

Man, if you guys are seeing phallic imagery in those drawings I'm glad I didn't lead with Shin Megami Tensei artwork.

    Inspirational Sources Dump

This is a general thread to share inspirational resources, pieces of media that you find especially well suited to adapting or stealing whole-cloth for tabletop games. Not necessarily the thread to expand them into full write-ups or stat blocks/etc., just to share neat things you found that...

    Adventures you'd like to see

I'd also be interested in some good underwater adventures, but I believe part of doing it effectively may be down to the rules governing underwater exploration/combat. I've seen it handled in the past by giving the PCs magic items that let them breath underwater and/or boots that let them move...

The Vault: Rare and unusal stuff for the taking

Beacon Whistle and Curfew Ring A short necklace whistle and a small ring (clearly meant for a child's finger but can fit on an adult's pinky with difficulty), both made of silver and inset with matching heart-shaped blue gemstones. When blown the whistle produces an extraordinarily loud tone--...

    Free Mapmaking Resource - Tiled

I've been contemplating a career change for this exact reason; office cubicles are the real dungeons, man. Although I will miss having access to a commercial grade CAD plotter-- how else am I going to print free sheets of 3' x 4' graph paper?

    Vistas and Vantage Points

As I was recently re-reading the Castle Xyntillian review, I noticed Bryce bring up the issue of vistas, and how ideally a module should give the players adequate information about their surroundings on a larger scope than just what's adjacent to the room they're in. He's mentioned this in the...

    Free Mapmaking Resource - Tiled

I've experimented with many different map making tools over the years and found all of them lacking. I've made maps in Photoshop and Illustrator in the past but what I like in a dedicated mapping tool is speed; I'm willing to trade some flexibility for the ability to brainstorm and tweak map...

Gah! Help me find a pregen for this ruined city of mine!

The only things I can find in the tenfootpole directory that might be of use are Streams of the Lucid Crack and ONS3 – The Spire of Iron and Crystal. They both sound like they involve mechanical-ish environments, and the former specifically has magma/steam rooms. It might also be worth pulling...

What if the adventure references section is included as a separate document. Like a play aid for the DM????

    1.22 Trap and Door Porn

It might be because depressing a special stone in the wall is the "default" secret door mechanism in the greater cultural consciousness of dungeon tropes? Right there next to pulling one of the books down to swing open a bookcase door. In the same way that the default pit trap is one that is...

    1.22 Trap and Door Porn

There's a difference between detail that's flavorful/useful in play, and mundane detail which is what Bryce is concerned about. Say you have a section of a room with a statue of a crow and an empty bird's nest beneath it Placing a shiny object inside makes the statue spread it's wings and fly...

    Roll20?

Some PDF readers have a snapshot/snipping tool, at least Foxit does (free). That might give you better results than your device's screenshot feature.

5e - why you think it sucks, and why you're wrong

I had time to kill at Gen con last year (maybe the year before? Whenever they were doing the playtest) and sat down for a 30 minute demo of PF2 on a lark, but I don't remember much about it, care to elaborate?

5e - why you think it sucks, and why you're wrong

Coming in late, but I have to make a quick clarification regarding DP's claim that 5E is the evolution of D&D (and related to EOTB's point about different design intents): the most you could say is that 5E is an evolution of the game. The OSR began as a revisiting of the older rulesets, but...

What about if countering an enemy spell causes it to misfire, prompting a roll on a chaos effect table like in DCC. Maybe only on a particularly successful counterspell roll?

5e - why you think it sucks, and why you're wrong

Also, I don't remember if it explicitly works this way in BX/AD&D, but I always interpreted Turn Undead to work similar to the Sleep spell in that the lowest HD creatures are affected first. So part of your concern about clerics being overpowered can be mitigated by giving powerful undead a...

5e - why you think it sucks, and why you're wrong

Did you know the "e" in 5e stands for "extremely bad"? This debate almost makes me wonder if OD&D-era Gary was right and too much mechanical weapon differentiation is a sin. Even variable weapon damage strays too far from God's light.
