The First Delightful Dungeon Competition (deadline August 26th)

8, 8, I forget what is for
it's a ball which most of the players mainly touch with their feet.
Indeed. Gently mocking Europeans is sort of a side hobby for me. Like seriously, why are their traffic lights on the wrong side of the intersection?

Anyway, I have thoroughly derailed this worthy thread and must abjectly apologize.

My my my, we just loooove to hear ourselves don't we?

Europeans: "American roads are horrible; too wide and bland, not pedestrian or bike friendly, everyone drives big SUVs, no mass transit... They should really imitate the European model".

Also Europeans: "I think I'll just drive a little on the sidewalk here, stop for this pedestrian who is crossing twenty feet from the actual crosswalk, go up a two-lane street that's only wide enough to accommodate 0.75 cars... Oops, scraped a little more paint off there. Now let me just park my car right here in the middle of the road. It's all good."

On-topic: dammit this thing is tougher to jump into than I thought - I keep second-guessing every idea I have, it's maddening!

I still plan to submit something, I just need the pressure of a closing deadline to actually force my hand.

My hand was not forced - I've nothing to submit. Deepest apologies.
Will be following along with the results though.

I'll likely run a second competition along similar lines, though I feel I need to get some real games under my belt before then.

3 more entries have been reviewed, showing remarkable quality and variance in scope. Producing these so quickly gives me some insight into what Bryce has been doing all these years and how much I need to work on my prose.

If I could ever finish something to submit...for all the recent contests (e.g. NAP x.0)...I would utterly and totally be disqualified for flagrantly breaking the rules. Squeezing out a sensible adventure is hard enough, why does it also need to be a party trick?

Constraints gives structure to creativity, and in some cases they also enforce quality. It is good practice to design quickly, because then you have to develop a proper understanding of design, not just build and iterate forever. This competition is going to end up producing 8 or 9 good adventures, which is more than the last several years of "One Page Dungeon Contest". The difference is I understand and care about what I'm doing (and courting competitors of the same understanding).

The contest is soon over! I have secretly picked the winner from among the 7 qualified entries (and they are truly all qualified to win, had they not been bested) and await the votes for the runner up. I'll force Bryce to review the final compilation, it's all great stuff!
